چکیده

ABSTRACT: In the present study, we aimed to evaluate effects of different concentrations selenium (Se) ovine nutritional supplementation on spermatozoa DNA integrity. Thirty male ovines (age: 10 months) were used. They fed with hay and ram food in an intensive system, which was divided into stalls (5 m long 3 wide) feeding troughs, had ad libitum access water. Ovines group 1 (G1, negative control) received mineral salt without Se; G2 same mixed 5 mg Se (as sodium selenite)/kg supplement;ovines G3 Se/kg supplement; G4 15 G5 20 supplement. all groups remained untreated for 14 days, followed by a treatment period 56 days. Semen samples obtained electroejaculation. The damage semen evaluated using comet assay. experimental design implemented × Latin Square, i.e., five treatments periods. mean differences compared Tukey’s test at significance level 5%. control (G1) showed high percentage Se-treated (G2-G5). Therefore, could decrease basal sperm cells, suggesting that might exert protective DNA.

Analysis of chromatin integrity and DNA damage of buffalo spermatozoa

This study was conducted to determine chromatin integrity and DNA damage by DNA electrophoresis and comet assays of buffalo fresh and frozen semen. Semen samples were collected from four buffalo bulls and evaluated after freezing for semen motility, viability, sperm abnormalities, chromatin integrity and DNA damage. A significant variation was found in semen parameters after thawing. Highly sig...

Apoptosis and DNA damage in human spermatozoa.

DNA damage is frequently encountered in spermatozoa of subfertile males and is correlated with a range of adverse clinical outcomes including impaired fertilization, disrupted preimplantation embryonic development, increased rates of miscarriage and an enhanced risk of disease in the progeny. The etiology of DNA fragmentation in human spermatozoa is closely correlated with the appearance of oxi...

Effects of dietary selenium supplementation on DNA damage and apoptosis in canine prostate.

The trace mineral selenium inhibits cancer development in a variety of experimental animal models. We used an in vivo canine model to evaluate the effects of dietary selenium supplementation on DNA damage in prostate tissue and on apoptosis in prostate epithelial cells. Sexually intact elderly male beagle dogs were randomly assigned to receive an unsupplemented diet (control group) or diets tha...

Prostate cancer risk and DNA damage: translational significance of selenium supplementation in a canine model.

Daily supplementation with the essential trace mineral selenium significantly reduced prostate cancer risk in men in the Nutritional Prevention of Cancer Trial. However, the optimal intake of selenium for prostate cancer prevention is unknown. We hypothesized that selenium significantly regulates the extent of genotoxic damage within the aging prostate and that the relationship between dietary ...
